International Women's Day: What Does it Mean to Be a Black Woman Today?

Join us for the first Highgate Black Women's Wellness Group meeting on the 17th of March 2022 to discuss what it means to be a black woman in Britain today.

The event will include a talk by Maya Vaughan, a relationship coach skilled in conflict resolution. Here, we will discuss racial trauma: what it means, what it does, and how we can collectively heal as black women.

Highgate Black Women's Wellness Group is a collective of black women with an interest in health and well-being. We promote radical self care for black women through talking therapies, activities, meditation and cultivating a safe space to express emotions away from an often hostile white gaze.

The first series of events will involve six sessions, every Thursday at 6-8pm. Although there is a rough outline of events -- including discussions and activities centring health, arts, racism, relationships and activism -- the sessions are also a space for black and black heritage women to collaborate, share expertise and experience and build connections. Keep an eye on our Eventbrite page for further event details and to register your participation!

This is a child-friendly space and women with childcaring responsibilities are encouraged to attend. This is an event for black and black heritage women.

FREE Online Webinar: Understanding Our Own Triggers

In this free live talk, Relationship Coach, Maya Vaughan, will offer her insights on why we react in the way we do in our intimate relationships and how we can become empowered to respond from a different place that invites compassion rather than attack. When we begin to understand what is going on beneath our reactions, we are then able to share more honestly and openly with our partners about what we are really feeling beneath the angry outburst or the sullen withdrawal. When we share in this way, we melt conflict and build trust.

Maya is an engaging speaker with a very important message. She brings wisdom, clarity, humour and deep insight. And she offers a realistic roadmap for transforming conflict into understanding and compassion. Highly Recommended.”

FREE Online Webinar: Love is a Choice

In this Valentine Day special webinar, relationship coach, Maya Vaughan, explores what it means to actively choose love in our relationships. She suggests that in order to create long-lasting, healthy relationships we have to wake up each day and choose to love. And, this does not mean being awash with the glow of romance and passion (although that’s always a bonus) or feeling all loved up.  Rather, it is about our willingness and courage to stay when the going gets rough, to dig deep, to look closely at ourselves and to explore ways to actively bring love back into the room.

Maya will also share her insights into the 5 Stages of Love and how they are perfectly designed to carry us towards bliss and emotional safety as long as we remember to choose to love.

As always, Maya’s talk will be packed with useful tips for what you can do right here and now to give LOVE centre stage in your relationships.

“Maya’s talks strike the perfect balance between sharing her own personal journey and offering complex psychological concepts which she simplifies brilliantly as well as practical tips for how to improve our relationships. I can’t recommend her highly enough”
— Yosein Burke, Business Advisor
